Why does my Internet connection drop out on the Megafon network?

Question: The Internet connection to the Megafon mobile operator is frequently lost (once or more per day) on routers with built-in modems, such as the Keenetic Hero 4G+, Runner 4G, Explorer 4G and Skipper 4G. This can be temporarily resolved by restarting the router. How can this problem be permanently fixed?

Answer: Try disabling the Band 38 frequency range (or all LTE-TDD bands) and enabling the Ping Check mechanism.

  1. Disable Band 38 for 4G LTE-TDD in the modem settings.

The Band 38 frequency range is not used by the operator in all regions and often has a narrow channel width. Disabling it is unlikely to have a negative impact on Internet connection speed.

In some cases, disabling all 4G LTE-TDD frequency ranges may also help.

For further information, please refer to manual 4G/3G frequency band selection.

  2. Enable the Ping Check Internet availability check mechanism on the modem interface. For example:

For detailed information on configuring Ping Check, see article Ping Check fine-tuning.

Note

If the situation persists after following the above recommendations, without restarting the router, save the self-test.txt diagnostic file from the router following the instructions in Saving the self-test file and send it to our technical support.
